Jazz Guitar Weekend: Testimonials

Here's what previous attendees have said about the weekend:

Great fun! No one who plays - or tries to - play jazz guitar could fail to find the jazz guitar weekend highly enjoyable. Seeing two contemporary jazz guitarists at the top of their game playing in small informal sessions, as well as in concert, is both humbling and immensly inspiring. It also helps that, as well as being great musicians, John and Peter are also extremely approachable and patient in explaining their take on playing jazz guitar.

John's session were very informative, despite being very unstructured. John tends towards a, dare I say it, improvised approach. His style is to start playing something, which he’ll then remark on. At the same time encouraging questions from the group, which will spur him on to other topics, some hilarious anecdotes and other playing examples. I had had the benefit of some lessons from him some twenty years earlier, so I knew pretty much what was coming, but I found it very useful nonetheless to be reminded again about what I should be doing. But the main benefit is the inspiration you get from seeing a master guitarist playing up close and personal.

Heavyweight Jazz Guitar Instruction from two of the UK's finest Players. Topics covered ranged from Swing to Scofield. A whole load of vital information packed into a great value for money Weekend and a great fun too - Can't be beat ! - a Blast !

Really enjoyed Pete's Hands-on approach to the " Rhythm" changes and the Contemporary Melodic Approach Sessions. Pete's organised and patient manner paid dividends big time here and before long people were starting to play things that they wouldn't have otherwise played in the "round robin" Solo and Rhythm Blows, which were welcome and plentiful this year.

Keith

terrific and I enjoyed every bit of it... gave me a lot to work on, and helped me jump-start my playing

TP

absolutely superb and a thoroughly enjoyable event

KK

I would do this course at every opportunity

DO

I genuinely feel inspired...and different about picking-up the old axe that I've been neglecting for so long

MS

What an amazing experience - looking forward to next year already

DR

a great weekend - I will do my best to be there next time. I spent yesterday learning the diminshed and lydian scales. The lydian had gone by the morning, but the diminshed remained undiminished by a good nights sleep!

BB

I've gone away determined to be a better jazz guitarist by next year, and with a clear sense of direction from John & Pete. I started learning the G alt scale within 10 minutes of arriving home. Tommorrow I'll buy a metronome. (and he did!)
